Little Bobbers 1st Annual Fishing Derby

Thanks to Mother Nature (who spared us the predicted thunderstorms), a bunch of dedicated volunteers and all the fish-loving kids and parents, the 1st Annual Little Bobber’s Fishing Derby on August 12th was a success! Kids from both the Eastern and Western shores enjoyed a rare opportunity to fish the wild ponds at CBEC. Lots of Bluegills varying in size from 2 to 7 inches and a few Largemouth Bass ranging from 9 to 17 inches were lurking in the ponds as well as a few shiners, painted and snapping turtles. Other activities such as edible crafts using gummy fish and worms, water balloon fights, a fly tying station provided by Partridge of Redditch and Regal Vise, and manned by expert Stephen Silverio, fly fishing instruction provided by expert Katie Blizzard, and an awesome inflatable BB Gun range provided by Bass Pro Shops were available throughout the event. All prizes, giveaways, goody bags, t-shirts, trophies and a gourmet hot-dog lunch were complimentary to the participants thanks to generosity of our sponsors and CBEC members. Next years’ derby is scheduled for August 4th so mark your calendars as this event sells out quickly and is capped at 100 kids!
