Rent a Kayak at CBEC

Kayak Rental Season Runs from May 1st – November 1st

The Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center has much to offer the water enthusiast! With our ideal location on a peninsula, we offer visitors kayak rentals to glide around Marshy Creek to enjoy the serenity of the Bay. The CBEC property is amazingly biodiverse– from ospreys and eagles to river otters and sting rays–you’re sure to spot a variety of wildlife on your paddling excursion. Don’t forget your binoculars and camera!

Very Important: We will not rent kayaks if the weather service has issued a small craft advisory or thunderstorm warning. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to check the weather before you leave your house.  www.weather.gov

New Procedures due to COVID19

WAIVERS are necessary for renting out all water recreation equipment and can be brought with you or obtained at the visitor center when checking in. Sanitization procedures are place for all equipment after each use and we will do our best to mitigate exposure–however by signing the waiver you knowingly assume all risk. Please make sure you are physically fit enough to perform your own self-rescue if need be. Remember to bring a dry bag, enough liquids, sun protection, bug spray, snacks or whatever else you need to enjoy your paddle.

WE STRONGLY PREFER YOU MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS AND PAYMENTS ONLINE BY CLICKING THE BUTTON BELOW TO EXPEDITE YOUR CHECK-IN PROCESS AS WELL AS LIMIT CONTACT WITH STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS. We encourage you to please bring your own life jacket, paddle and/or seat if you have them and prefer to use them. Kayak seats will not be given out until further notice.

When you arrive, please check in at the visitor center and you will receive further instructions from staff and/or volunteers. Masks must be worn at all times during check-in, at the kayak rack, on the dock and at check-out. Social distance to 6ft and follow the blue tape marks on the porch area of the main building and in the visitor center. Only 4 people will be allowed in the visitor center at one time. If you have a larger group, please have the rest of your group wait outside. At this time, restrooms are only available in the parking lot and out by the beach pavilion. Please return your equipment back to the main porch “sanitization stations” and then report back to the visitor center to check-out. Kayakers may not go past the beach area (1.25 miles away from the dock on the Kent Narrows side of the property) until further notice.

Kayak Rentals:

Our equipment is first come, first serve. Free kayak use for members! If you plan on kayaking often, consider purchasing a membership!

Rental Fees are $20/Vessel/Day

Last rental time is 3:00pm and you need to be back to the visitor center at 4:45pm to check out.
