Bay Grasses
An aquaculture facility was established in 2004 to conduct a comparative study on the reproductive success and seed yields of natural populations of Redhead Grass and Widgeon Grass found within the mid-bay regions with tank cultured species grown under the same bay conditions and sediment. The second phase of the project focused on the process of determining the production methods, scale, and resource requirements needed to produce a cost-effective, large-scale SAV restoration program whereby 10 acres can be planted from seed per year throughout the Chesapeake Bay.
