“Wild Life” Summer Day Camps at CBEC

Picture this: your kids spending the summer in the sun, exploring the Bay, hiking trails, and meeting friends new and old, all while learning about the environment through a “hands-on, feet-wet” approach that makes learning seem more like playing. Sound good? Explore day camps offered at CBEC!

Dates: See schedule below. Camps run 9-3pm, except Nature Tykes (9-12pm). Before & after-care available (8-9am; 3-5pm).  Ages: See schedule and details below.

 

Cost: Per session, excluding specialty sessions – Members: $200/session, Non-members: $225.  Specialty sessions – Young Naturalists: $300/2-week session, Nature Tykes: $100/ half-day camp 

 

SPECIAL DEALS AND DISCOUNTS: Only one discount per camper can be applied, discounts not available for Nature Tyke or Young Naturalist camps

  • Early-bird discount- $25 discount for registering before March 1, 2012
  • Family discount - $25 off for siblings (discount applies to all siblings)
  • Multiple week discount - $25 off for signing up for 2 or more sessions

Description

June 18-22

Session 1

1A- Life around the Bay, ages 5-7

1B- Life around the Bay, ages 8-12

Who lives here? From birds, to fish, and rabbits and fox, creepy crawlers and slithery snakes, discover the organisms that call CBEC home. Search for tracks, scat, and other signs of wildlife. 1B will kayak twice during the week and 1A will go marsh mucking!

June 25-29

Session 2

2A- Nature Tykes, ages 4-5*

        Half-day camp from 9-12pm.  Limited to 12 campers.

2B- Bay through the Ages, ages 6-12 

Nature Tykes- Perfect camp for our youngest explorers. Little ones will get their hands dirty as they explore life under the water, dig through a rotting log in search of creepy crawlers, visit with birds of prey, and search for treasures in the woods.

Bay through the Ages- Experience the Bay through the eyes of Native Americans, early colonists, & watermen. Hear traditional Native American stories, get your hands dirty working with oysters, catch crabs, & participate in projects to protect the Bay.

July 9-13

Session 3

3A- Survival, ages 5-7

3B- Survival, ages 8-12

See how well you can "rough it" out in the woods.  Campers will learn navigation, basic first aid, shelter and raft building, and identification of wild edibles.

July 16-20

Session 4

4A- Outdoor Sports & Games, ages 5-7

4B- Outdoor Sports & Games, ages 8-12

Love to play in the sun, mud, water, etc? Favorite recess games, team-building challenges, and water play are on the schedule this week. Campers will train to participate in a mini-triathlon. 4B will kayak daily, perfect for older campers.

July 23-27

Session 5

5A- Wonders of Water, ages 5-9

5B- Wetland Investigators, ages 10-15

Wonders of Water- Water, water everywhere! “Dive” into a week of fun as we explore wetlands, water quality, and stay cool with water games. Compete to create the best water rockets and floating rafts.  Wetland Investigators- Already thinking about a career in environmental science? This camp caters to our older campers as we investigate the wonder of wetlands. Analyze diversity and water quality from the shoreline, under the microscope, and by kayak, in addition to enjoying traditional camp activities with a spin for older campers. 

July 30-Aug. 3

AND Aug. 6-10

Session 6

6- Young Naturalist explore Art in Nature, ages 8-12 (2 weeks).

Limited to 15 campers.  $300/2-weeks

The Young Naturalist program aims to foster creativity, careful observation, and respect for nature by introducing a wide array of artistic and natural science activities. Keep sketching and photo journals, build flower presses and looms, make paper and natural dyes all while investigating and enjoying the rich environment of the CBEC.

Aug. 20-24

Session 7

7- Best of Camp 2012, ages 5-12. 

Limited to 15 campers.
